Session 1 – Modernizing PV Interconnection: How Alliant Energy Optimized Performance with PowerClerk

Summary: In the fifth year of the Reflow event, Alliant Energy shared their journey of optimizing their interconnection process using PowerClerk. With a significant volume of applications and regulatory changes, they faced challenges that required a streamlined approach. By employing Lean Six Sigma and focusing on data analysis, they identified areas for improvement and implemented automation and standardization. The modernization process, which took a year, resulted in a 37% reduction in review and approval time, showcasing the importance of collaboration and effective communication. The lessons learned from this project set a strong foundation for future enhancements.
 

 

Session 2 – Solving DER Visibility Challenges for a More Reliable Grid with FleetView

Summary: In this session, Kyle Seymour discusses the complexities introduced by Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) across utility departments and the unique challenges each team faces. He emphasizes the importance of understanding DER behavior for long-term planning and real-time grid operations, highlighting how FleetView serves as a scalable data platform that provides insights into DER performance. The session showcases how FleetView, in conjunction with PowerClick, enhances interconnection processes and supports accurate solar production simulations. Case studies from Exelon and Eversource illustrate the practical applications of FleetView in refining interconnection requests and forecasting load profiles. The discussion concludes with a call to action for further engagement and exploration of FleetView’s capabilities.
 

 

Session 3 – Becoming a PowerClerk Power User: JEA’s Journey to Faster Approvals and Expanded Use Cases

Summary: At the Reflow 2025 conference, JEA shared their successful implementation of the PowerClerk system to streamline their distributed generation interconnection program. After facing significant challenges with data quality and lengthy approval times, JEA cleared a nine-week backlog in under three months. The transition to PowerClerk not only improved efficiency but also enhanced contractor feedback and data collection. With plans to expand the program to cover more use cases, JEA emphasizes the importance of stakeholder relationships and clear communication for ongoing success. Their journey highlights the value of a unified system in modernizing utility operations.
 

 

Session 4 – Driving Customer Action with Existing Data: Unlocking Energy Program Participation

Summary: In this session, Tom Hoff moderates a panel discussing how utilities can manage increased electric loads from distributed energy resources (DERs). The panelists, including experts from Clean Power Research, explore tools like FleetView and PowerClerk, which help utilities analyze DER performance and customer behavior. They emphasize the importance of demand flexibility and the integration of technologies such as electric vehicles and heat pumps. The discussion highlights how these tools can enhance customer engagement and improve program targeting for utilities. Overall, the session aims to equip utilities with insights and strategies to better accommodate the evolving energy landscape.
 

 

Session 5 – Automating Interconnection: Real-time Technical Screens and Analysis with Integration

Summary: In this session, James Latham, a senior technical product manager, discusses Power Clerk’s real-time integration capabilities aimed at streamlining the interconnection process. The focus is on how automation can enhance efficiency by connecting Power Clerk with third-party systems through web connectors and APIs. Key improvements in the integration features are highlighted, including reduced query times and the ability to handle complex data. The session also showcases a proof of concept demonstrating how automation can facilitate project approvals and improve data management. Overall, the discussion emphasizes the importance of integrating systems to enhance operational efficiency in interconnection applications.
 

 

Session 6 – Scaling for the Solar Surge: How FortisAlberta Transformed Micro-Generation (PV) Application Processing with PowerClerk

Summary: In this session, presenters Lane Bosman and Robert Deschamps discussed Fortis Alberta’s transformation of micro-generation application processing through the implementation of PowerClerk. Before adopting this tool, the company faced significant challenges, including slow turnaround times and incomplete paper-based applications, which frustrated stakeholders. The project, initiated in January 2024, involved collaboration with Clean Power Research and resulted in improved efficiency, real-time feedback, and better communication with solar installers. As a result, Fortis Alberta processed more applications with fewer staff and received positive feedback from installers. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand PowerClerk for larger micro-generation projects and adapt it for distributed generation.
 

 

Session 7 – Intelligent Interconnection: AI-Augmented Workflows and Beyond

Summary: In session seven of Reflow 2025, the focus is on AI-augmented workflows, led by Brian Bowler and his team at PowerClerk. They discuss the integration of AI tools to enhance business processes, showcasing three key demonstrations aimed at improving efficiency and user experience. The session highlights the importance of AI in automating manual tasks, providing insights through process efficiency reports, and facilitating quick answers with the program explorer assistant. Participants are encouraged to engage with AI features and share feedback, emphasizing collaboration for future enhancements. Overall, the session reflects excitement about the potential of AI to streamline workflows and boost productivity.

Session 8 – What’s New in PowerClerk with Jenn and Friends
